Basic information

Sodium Nitrate is a strong oxidizing agent and can fuel the fire when exposed to flammable materials. It can cause combustion and explosion when in contact with easily oxidized substances, sulfur, reducing agents and strong acids. When burning, it has a yellow flame and produces toxic and irritating nitrogen oxide gas, which is irritating to the skin. It used in the production of nitric acid and sodium nitrite, as an ingredient in the glass, match, enamel or ceramic industries, as a fertilizer, and as a catalyst in the sulfuric acid production industry, etc.

Application

1. Agriculture: used as itrogen fertilizer and foliar fertilizer.

2. Industry: in glass manufacturing,it acts as a clarifying and oxidizing agent to remove bubbles from molten glass; in metal treatment,it used for metal cleaning and phosphating to remove surface oxides. It also serves as an additive in electrolytic polishing of aluminum. For fireworks and explosives,it used as an oxidizer in pyrotechnics, explosives, and propellants. And in dyes and chemical industry,it employed as an intermediate in dyes or as a nitrating agent in chemical reactions.

3. Food Industry: As food preservative,it used in cured meat products (e.g., ham, sausages) to inhibit bacterial growth (like Clostridium botulinum) and maintain color.
