Germanium dioxide (GeO₂) is chemically stable and insoluble in water and hydrochloric acid, but soluble in alkaline solutions to form germanate salts. It can react with strong alkalis or strong acids at high temperatures, such as melting with NaOH to form sodium germanate.

Basic information
Germanium dioxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula GeO2, representing the dioxide of germanium. It appears as a white powder or colorless crystal, and exists in two forms: a slightly soluble hexagonal crystal system (stable at low temperatures) and an insoluble tetragonal crystal system. Its transition temperature is 1033℃. It is primarily used for the production of metallic germanium, and also serves as a spectral analysis and semiconductor material.
